Homonyms - Heap (As a Noun and Verb)

 1. (noun) - a pile or mass of things.

  • There was a heap of junk mail in the mailbox when we got back from our holiday.
  • Sarah stared at the huge heap of dirty laundry lying next to the washing machine and groaned.


2. (verb) - to put things in a pile.

  • John heaped as much food onto his plate before sitting down to eat.
  • The boys heaped their plates with food during the buffet, but only one of them managed to clear his plate.
